Icon Aid
Matt Gemmell recently wrote about the “Icon Crisis” faced by freeware and open source OS X authors. A lot of these people are hard core UNIX geeks finding themselves somewhat at a loss on a platform where presentation suddenly counts, or independent developers with a great idea but no funds to hire pros like IconFactory to make it look pretty. In the same way that we have repositories of sample Cocoa code, wouldn’t it be nice to help these sorts of people out with a library of “open license” icons?
I, for one, think it’s a great idea, and I’m willing to put my icons where my mouth is! I’ll start today by releasing the green refresh icon I designed for use in PodWorks.

I think it’s a pretty successful effort considering it represents my first foray into Adobe Illustrator, and I hope others will find it useful. Perhaps someone from the army of people currently working on custom WebKit-based browsers can use it as a toolbar icon :-).
The distribution is downloadable as a StuffIt file (249k) containing both a PSD and the original Illustrator file (in case anyone needs a color other than green). Enjoy!
(Update: Immediately after posting this, I noticed that Matt released a set that includes a refresh icon. He even made the same WebKit joke as me! Oh well—the more the merrier!)
